As my fellow blogger @KristinaDiGirol mentioned, this time of year the parking is tough in the city. So once you’ve dug out your car (this week we may not get any snow!) go somewhere where parking isn’t an issue. If you are looking to get away for a day outdoors or even for the whole weekend, check out one of the many great ski resorts in Southern NH. Three legitimate options within reasonable driving distance from Boston are:
Pat’s Peak in Henniker, NH (80 miles), $64 full day pass on weekends or pay one price $49 special for night skiing from 3pm-10pm on Saturday nights if you aren’t an early riser. Not a huge mountain, but lots of great variety and challenging trails for all skill levels.
Mount Sunapee in Newbury, NH (101 miles), if you’re feeling rebellious and decide to take a weekday off, check out this deal on Mount Sunapee’s website: http://www.mountsunapee.com/mtsunapeewinter/rates/specialdeals/advance-tickets.asp “Monday through Friday, non-holiday if you purchase your lift ticket at least four days in advance on the Mount Sunapee on-line store your lift ticket is 50% off. It’s that simple. There are no quotas or limited quantities for sale like other lift ticket sites. You give us four days notice; we give you 50% off. Within the four day window? That’s ok, too, because three days out gets you 40% off, two days 30% off and one day receive 20% off when the lift tickets are purchased by midnight.”
Gunstock in Gilford, NH (102 miles), night skiing 4-10pm on Fridays, family or group of 4 for $99, that’s an awesome deal. Or do a two consecutive day pass for $117.
If you don’t have easy access to your own car, check out Wachusett which is accessible by MBTA ski train if you are feeling lucky on the MBTA these days… Main point here is that there are plenty of great deals and options out there, so be adventurous and get outside. Go with a group of your best buds and raise some noise or get away with that special someone. Remember to flash those college or grad school IDs for additional discounts!!
